EUDR for timber

EUDR software for timber, where the EUTR left off.

Wood was the one commodity with EU rules before: the Timber Regulation. The EUDR replaces it with more: geolocation of every plot of harvest, a deforestation-free test, and statements in the Information System. EUDRplot holds it per product, with the species.

From the EUTR to the EUDR

The EU Timber Regulation asked importers to minimise the risk of illegally harvested wood. The EUDR keeps legality and adds two things: the wood must come from land that was not deforested after 31 December 2020, and it must have been harvested without forest degradation. It also adds geolocation of every plot of harvest and statements filed in the Information System.

What timber files look like

Concession and harvest-unit polygons from forestry GIS, often large and detailed. For many suppliers, the geolocation of forest plots is new, and comes as shapefiles in national coordinate systems.

Species and products

Every statement for wood names the species. EUDRplot keeps the species with the product, so it is filled in each time. Check each HS code too: since September 2026 only specific wooden seats remain under 9401, while wooden furniture under 9403 is covered.

Questions

Does the EUDR replace the EU Timber Regulation?

Yes. The EUTR is repealed by the EUDR, with transitional rules for wood harvested before the EUDR applies.

Is printed paper covered?

No. Paper and paperboard (48) and pulp (47) are in Annex I; printed books and newspapers (49) are not.

Does the later SME date apply to wood?

Not for products covered by the Annex to the EU Timber Regulation, where the EUDR applies from 30 December 2026 whatever the operator's size.
