For customs brokers: EUDR reference numbers and the geolocation behind them
Customs needs the statement's reference number before release. Spot geolocation problems early, and with a paid plan file and track statements for clients.
Under the amended Article 26(4), the person lodging the customs declaration for release for free circulation or export makes the statement's reference number available to customs, unless it arrives through the customs single-window interface (Regulation (EU) 2025/2650, Art. 1(17)). No reference number, no release.
A reference number exists only once a statement has been accepted, and a statement whose geolocation file is rejected is not submitted. So a broken GeoJSON file upstream becomes a held shipment at the border.
Where a broker can help
- Know what makes files fail. The Commission's sixteen common errors, with fixes, are in the error reference.
- Check before it is urgent. If a client sends you the geolocation, run it through the checker (nothing is uploaded) and send back the report.
- Grouped statements. Where statements have been grouped, the grouped statement's reference number is the one to declare (Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1565, Art. 8a).
- EORI. A statement for goods entering or leaving the market includes the operator's EORI number (Regulation (EU) 2023/1115, Annex II).
With a paid plan
- File statements for clients (Starter). Submit due diligence statements to the EU Information System from a saved project and keep the reference number with it, ready for the customs declaration.
- Check many files at once (Starter). Batch checks with one combined report, when a shipment brings several suppliers' files.
- Share the evidence (Starter). Read-only report links and PDF reports for importers and auditors.
- Several clients (Consultant). A separate workspace for each client you file for.
