EUDR plot mapping

EUDR plot mapping, from the field to the file.

Plots are mapped by cooperatives, exporters and field teams with whatever they have: phone apps, GPS units, Google Earth, GIS. EUDRplot takes all of it and turns it into geolocation the Information System accepts.

Point or polygon

Measure first. A plot of four hectares or less can be a single point, with its area recorded. A larger plot needs a polygon around its perimeter. Cooperatives with many small farms often map points, and that is allowed; estates and ranches need boundaries.

Walking a boundary

Start at a corner, walk the edge in one direction, and close where you began. Most mapping errors come from a missed corner added at the end, which makes the outline cross itself, or from walking back along the same edge. The checker shows both on the map.

From field data to file

Whatever the source, the result has to be GeoJSON in WGS 84 with six decimals. The converters handle KML, shapefiles, GPX and spreadsheets, detect the coordinate system, and show every decision they make.

Questions

How accurate does mapping have to be?

The regulation asks for six decimal digits, not for survey accuracy. A boundary walked with a phone is normally fine; what matters is that it describes the plot and is a valid shape.

What about plots with houses or ponds inside?

Holes are refused by the Information System. The hole splitter turns such a polygon into pieces the system accepts, without changing the area covered.

Do I need to remap every year?

Only when the plot changes. A new or changed plot needs new geolocation.
