Polygon area calculator in hectares
Measures each plot's area geodesically (on the WGS84 ellipsoid, not a flat map) and compares it with the Area the file declares. Plots over four hectares are marked, because above that the Information System will not accept a single point for a plot.

How it works
- Areas are computed with GeographicLib, the same method GIS software uses for geodesic area.
- Points have no measurable area; their declared Area is shown instead.
- Download the table as CSV.
What the Information System requires
- For a plot given as a single point, the Information System raises an error if its Area is above four hectares, unless the commodity is cattle. A point with no Area is treated as four hectares. Source: EUDR Information System: Validation Rules, Geolocation area for point. Last verified .
- The regulation requires polygons for plots of land of more than four hectares used to produce any relevant commodity other than cattle. Source: Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 (the EU Deforestation Regulation), Art. 2(28). Last verified .
Why the area is measured on the ellipsoid
A flat-map measurement of a plot near the equator can be off by more than a percent, and the four-hectare line is where the law changes what you must supply. We measure on the WGS84 ellipsoid, the same model the coordinates are defined on, and compare the result with the declared Area (The declared Area does not match the shape you drew (PROP-007)).
