‘plot of land’ means land within a single real-estate property, as recognised by the law of the country of production, which enjoys sufficiently homogeneous conditions to allow an evaluation of the aggregate level of risk of deforestation and forest degradation associated with relevant commodities produced on that land

Two tests are packed into the definition: the land is within one property, as the local law recognises it; and conditions across it are similar enough to assess its deforestation risk as a whole.

In a GeoJSON file, each plot is normally one feature: a point, or a polygon around its perimeter. Whether it needs a polygon depends on its size (Regulation (EU) 2023/1115, Art. 2(28)). Where a product comes from several plots, the geolocation of all of them is needed (Regulation (EU) 2023/1115, Art. 9(1)(d)).

One farm can be several plots: a producer with a cocoa field and, across the road, a separate coffee field on a different title has two.
