Error COORD-005
Duplicate points after truncation to six decimals
The Information System cuts every coordinate to six decimals. Two points that differ only beyond the sixth decimal collapse into one, which can break the shape.
- Severity
- Error. The Information System rejects the file, or silently stores something other than what you meant.
- Fixed automatically?
- Yes, in one click. The change is listed in the change log.
- In short
- Round to six decimals and remove the duplicate. The shape does not change by more than about 11 centimetres.
What the Information System does
It cuts every coordinate to six decimals before storing it: "if there are more than 6 decimals for the coordinates, the system truncate the value to 6 decimals" (Information System validation rules, Geolocation invalid coordinates). Two consecutive points that become identical are one of the common file errors (GeoJSON File Description, Common errors 7).
Why it happens
GPS apps and drawing tools often record coordinates to ten or more decimals. The Information System keeps six. Points closer together than about 11 cm can therefore become the same point once cut. The specification's own example:
-5.8227391234, 144.2567071234 → -5.822739, 144.256707
-5.8227394567, 144.2567074567 → -5.822739, 144.256707
A repeated point in a ring is not harmless: it can leave a polygon with too few distinct corners, or with a zero-length side that geometry checks reject.

}What the checker reports for this file:
Fix it in EUDRplot
- Open the file in the checker. Each pair of points that collapses is marked on the map and in the editor.
- Remove the repeats. Choose Remove the repeated points, or Fix N safe problems. The surviving coordinates are cut to six decimals (exactly what the Information System will store) and the repeats are removed.
- Check the area. The fix measures each plot before and after and refuses any change beyond a few square metres. Download the file.
Fix it in QGIS
- Remove near-duplicate vertices. Run Remove duplicate vertices from the Processing Toolbox with a tolerance of
0.000001(degrees, for a layer in EPSG:4326). - Export at six decimals. Save Features As… GeoJSON, EPSG:4326, with the layer option COORDINATE_PRECISION set to 6.
- Check again. QGIS rounds where the Information System cuts, so run the exported file through the checker to be sure no new pair appeared.
