EUDR geolocation for soya: large farms and big polygon files
Soya geolocation under the EUDR: polygons for large fields, national datums such as SIRGAS 2000, file size, and the 2026 change excluding soya beans for sowing.
Soya beans, flour and meal, oil and oilcake are in Annex I (Regulation (EU) 2023/1115, Annex I). From Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/2102, the beans entry covers code 1201 90 00, which leaves out soya beans for sowing (Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/2102).
What soya files tend to look like
Soya fields are often far larger than four hectares, so they need polygons (Regulation (EU) 2023/1115, Art. 2(28)), and farm boundaries frequently come from rural-registry or farm-management systems as shapefiles.
- Coordinate systems. Farm maps may be in a national datum (in Brazil, SIRGAS 2000), often projected to UTM (for example EPSG:31982, SIRGAS 2000 / UTM zone 22S). The Information System takes WGS 84 degrees only (GeoJSON File Description, Introduction); convert with the source system declared.
- Declared areas. Farm records carry an official area; the checker compares it with the measured polygon.
- Size. Many large, detailed polygons approach the 25 MB statement limit (Information System validation rules, Geolocation data size).
Problems to look for
- These coordinates are not in WGS84 degrees (COORD-006): projected coordinates.
- The declared Area does not match the shape you drew (PROP-007): a registered area that does not match the drawn field.
- This plot has a hole in it (GEOM-005): fields drawn around legal reserves or water as holes.
- The file is larger than 25 MB (FILE-003): the size limit.
Our plausibility range for soya
With the commodity set to soya, the checker questions a plot under 0.5 ha or over 100,000 ha. These bounds are ours, not the regulation’s, and deliberately wide: they catch units mistakes, not unusual farms. They are never a reason the Information System would reject a file.
