Annex I covers coffee "whether or not roasted or decaffeinated", husks and skins, and substitutes containing coffee (Regulation (EU) 2023/1115, Annex I). From 30 December 2027, coffee extracts, essences and concentrates (soluble coffee) are added (Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/2102).

What coffee files tend to look like

Much coffee is grown on small farms and pooled by cooperatives and exporters, so files often combine many producers and many small plots: a Type II file, with ProducerCountry on every plot (GeoJSON File Description, File Variants Description, Type II). Plots of four hectares or less can be points with their Area; larger ones need polygons (Regulation (EU) 2023/1115, Art. 2(28)) (Information System validation rules, Geolocation area for point).

Problems to look for

Our plausibility range for coffee

With the commodity set to coffee, the checker questions a plot under 0.05 ha or over 5,000 ha. These bounds are ours, not the regulation’s, and deliberately wide: they catch units mistakes, not unusual farms. They are never a reason the Information System would reject a file.
